Das neue Teleobjektiv SAL-500F40G mit einer Brennweite von 500 Millimetern und einer durchgängigen Lichtstärke von F 4,0 ist das größte Objektiv, das Sony bislang vorgestellt hat. Kompatibel ist der größte Vertreter seiner Klasse mit SLT- und DSLR-Kameras mit A-Mount Bajonett von Sony. Das rund 3,5 Kilogramm schwere Teleobjektiv soll äußerlich durch eine solide und robuste Bauweise überzeugen. Im Innern dagegen verspricht Sony beste Verarbeitungsqualität, die wichtigsten Glaselemente sind mit einer Nano AR-Beschichtung versehen. Das soll Spiegelungen minimieren und eine optimale Bildqualität für Fotos und HD Videos garantieren.

Mit dem neuen 500 Millimeter Teleobjektiv SAL-500F40G ermöglicht Sony Fotografen bei weit entfernten Motiven den Fokus auf das Detail. Das robuste G-Objektiv soll für Vollformat-Fotografen bildfüllende Detailaufnahmen mit makelloser Auflösung ermöglichen. Dank des Verlängerungsfaktors entspricht die Brennweite bei Kameras mit APS-C Sensor der eines 750 Millimeter Objektivs.
Das robust gebaute SAL-500F40G meistert laut Hersteller auch schwierige Fotoeinsätze ohne Probleme. Die Fokussierung sowie die vorderen und hinteren Verbindungsstellen sind durch ineinandergreifende Dichtungen geschützt, die Staub und Feuchtigkeit abweisen – selbst bei Aufnahmen in strömendem Regen oder in trockenen Wüstengebieten soll das SAL stand halten.
D optische Aufbau des SAL-500F40G umfasst elf Elemente in zehn Gruppen, darunter drei ED- (Extra-low Dispersion) Glaselemente. Zugleich verfügt das G-Objektiv von Sony bei den zentralen Elementen über eine Nano AR-Beschichtung, die Reflexionen im Bild wirksam vermeiden soll. Der schnelle Super Sonic Wave Motor (SSM, Ultraschallmotor) verfügt über eine neue Treiberschaltung, der einen reaktionsstarken Autofokus mit bis zu vier Mal schnellerer Motivverfolgung als herkömmliche Objektive von Sony verspricht.
